Virtual Visual Collaboration

Using web-based work management for distributed and agile teams

Beth learned about Kerika last spring at the Washington State IPMA conference. She was looking for a project management tool that was better than a pile of sticky notes, a little more visual than Microsoft Excel, and not as regimented as Microsoft Project. It had to be intuitive and quick to learn. The tool had to work well with an Agile project management approach, and adapt well to rolling wave planning. Beth tried Kerika in the spring, and when she moved to the Washington State Department of Social and Health services this summer, she adopted it for one of her infrastructure application projects. Beth will review how Kerika helps keep her and her teammates organized. Arun will review other aspects of Kerika’s strength, especially its ability to facilitate communication in distributed teams crossing geographical, cultural, and language barriers.

Beth Albertson has worked in Information Technology for over 15 years. She started out in private industry and eventually managed the IT department at an environmental laboratory. After moving to Olympia, she joined the Network Services group at The Evergreen State College for 11 years, then moved to The City of Olympia where she developed her project management skills and earned her PMP. Last July, Beth accepted a position with the Washington State Department of Social Services to work as a Solution Architect. She utilizes both her technical and project management backgrounds for implementing infrastructure applications.

Arun Kumar is the founder and CEO of Kerika, the only task management and team collaboration system that’s designed specially for distributed Lean and Agile teams. Prior to founding Kerika, Arun was the Director of Program Management for Onvia; a consultant at Microsoft,; a board member of a Scandinavian software company; founder of Europe’s first cross-border electronic stock exchange with operations across multiple countries; and an E-Business Strategist for Morgan Stanley’s investment banking and trading businesses in the US and Europe. Arun was educated at the Indian Institute of Technology and Washington State University, and has been awarded two patents for inventing visual collaboration techniques.
